Shmuel is a typical Israeli boy who is serving his first year in the Israeli Army. He is young yet serious and living the life that is expected of him here in Israel. He is living down the block from us and was available to photograph. But if I could have I would have liked to photograph Daniel Pearl.
Somehow I can't help myself from thinking of Daniel Pearl as the one man show of “Tikun Olam”.
Daniel set out after the incredible terrorist attack on the Twin Towers in New York City to interview leaders of Arab terrorist cells.
He was so pure of Heart and Soul that I am so sure, without even having known him, that he was on his way to contributing tremendously to World Unity. Instead he was taken from this World prematurely in a violent manner and filmed for all to view.

In Judaism he died al Kiddush Hashem, “in sanctification of the name of god”. He was ultimately killed because he was a Jew. He was asked to speak about his Judaism in the last moments that his captors allowed him to live. His final fixing on this Earth was a story that was captured on World News and shown over and over again.
It is no wonder that his chosen profession was a World News reporter. It is as if nothing is ever a coincidence and every life choice we make leads us further on our personal mission of “Fixing The World”.

"Tikun Olam" is not only a message but an action. We should be inspired by the purity of Daniel Pearl and choose good over evil.
Daniel Pearl did not choose to die a martyr; it was forced upon him. Since we are still here we can choose to live al Kiddush Hashem and sanctify the name of god by living as good Jews. By striving to be a light unto the nations.
